Trinity was founded in 1872 (possibly earlier as there is an 1870 Census for Trinity, Texas taken on 19 July, 1870) on land purchased from the New York and Texas Land Company. The town was a railroad station on the Houston and Great Northern Railroad. [5] The town was originally named Trinity Station after the Trinity River.
This is intended to be a complete list of properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Trinity County, Texas. There are four properties listed on the National Register in the county. Two properties are designated Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks including one that is also a State Antiquities Landmark.
Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge was established on January 4, 1994 with an initial purchase of 4,400 acres (18 km 2). Since that time, the refuge has acquired additional acreage which now totals 30,000 acres (120 km 2 ).
The lake is the third-largest lake located in the state of Texas (only the Sam Rayburn Reservoir and Toledo Bend Reservoir are larger). The Livingston Dam, constructed across the Trinity River about 7 miles (11 km) southwest of the city of Livingston is 2.5 miles (4 km) in length and has an average depth of 55 feet (17 m). [2]
Brackenridge Recreation Complex is a park operated by the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority.The park is a former state park in Texas then known as Lake Texana State Park and is located near Edna in Jackson County, halfway between Houston and Corpus Christi on Lake Texana.
Lewisville Lake is the second lake to impound the waters of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in this area. The W.E. Callahan Construction Company completed the Garza Dam in 1927 at a cost of $5 million, which created Lake Dallas. The dam was 10,890 feet (3,320 m) long with a 567-foot (173 m) long service spillway.

Lake Charlotte has been a recreational area since the days of the Texas Revolution when sail boats were used along the Trinity River. Archaeological evidence discovered on the lakes shore has also shown that native americans utilized the water body as a source for clams, oysters, and mussels [2] The lake was named after Charlotte Barthe Labadie, the mother of Nicholas Descomps Labadie. [2]
