Early in the 19th century, the Cherokees were led by Principal Chiefs Little Turkey (1788–1801), Black Fox (1801–1811), and Pathkiller (1811–1827). The seat of the Cherokee after 1788 was at Ustanali (near Calhoun, Georgia); [24] in 1825 nearby New Echota became the Cherokee capital.
