Gage County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 21,704. [1] Its county seat is Beatrice. [2] The county was created in 1855 and organized in 1857. [3] [4] [5] It was formed from land taken from the Otoe in an 1854 treaty.

Before the southwest corner of Gage County was home to Odell, it was part of the 10-by-25-mile (16 by 40 km) Otoe Indian Reservation. [4] Odell was laid out in 1880 when the railroad was extended to that point. The community was named after LeGrand Odell, an original owner of the town site. [5]
