The 2010-2014 Legacy and Outback models offer a six-speed manual as one of the two transmission options in the base 2.5i and 2.5i Premium and is the only option for the Legacy GT model. This transmission is an evolution of the 5MT split-case design, and does not share any parts with the STI's 6MT transmission.
All Spec B models feature an improved suspension system by Bilstein, navigation system (making the Spec. B the sole pre-2010 MT Legacy to get one), exclusive (to the Spec B) interior, 18" wheels, and additional aesthetic modifications. 2006 Spec B models have a 5-speed manual transmission while 2007-on models have a 6-speed manual transmission.
The second-generation Crosstrek in North America uses the revised direct-injection FB20D gasoline engine with 152 hp (154 PS; 113 kW) and 196 N⋅m (20 kg⋅m; 145 lb⋅ft) output. The base transmission was changed to a 6-speed manual transmission as opposed to the 5-speed in the first generation. [33]
Subaru is one of the few companies that still offers manual transmissions. But with the 2024 Impreza, the company has eliminated the manual from its entry model.
Transmission choices are either a new CVT called the Subaru Performance Transmission (SPT) or a revised version of the six-speed manual. The SPT offers a planetary centre gear with variable torque distribution, while the manual transmission is equipped with a viscous centre differential and a 50-50 torque split. [66]
A five-speed manual transmission became available with the 2.2 engine on all models, except the Brighton which was only available with the 1.8 and a 5-speed. Subaru later decided to emphasize all-wheel drive in North America, making it standard on every Impreza (and Legacy) from 1997 onwards.
More than eight in 10 buyers of the sport-compact are choosing the six-speed manual over Subaru's humdrum CVT.
The engines offered are the EJ25, EZ36 and the EJ25 with a turbo. Australians can choose either the Lineartronic CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission on the 2.5i, a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission on the 2.5GT, but transmission choices on the EZ36 are limited to the 5-speed automatic.
