The Festival du Cross, also known as Festival du Cross-Country, is an annual professional cross country running competition in Carhaix, France. First held in 2023, it takes place in November. As of 2024 it is a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold status meeting, the highest level, joining Cross d'Allonnes as the only such meetings in France.
The Midland Counties Amateur Cross-Country Association was formed in 1879, the Northern Cross-Country Association in 1882, and the Southern Counties Cross-Country Association was established in 1883. Then also in 1883 the National Cross-Country Union was formed, with Walter Rye, the founder of Thames Hare and Hounds, as first President.

The Cross international Le Maine Libre-Allonnes-Sarthe, also known as Cross d'Allonnes, is an annual professional cross country running competition in Allonnes, Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France. First held in 1965, it most often takes place in mid- to late-November and is sponsored by French newspaper Le Maine libre .

As of 2024 it is a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold status meeting, the highest level, joining Sirikwa Cross Country Classic as the only such meetings in Kenya and Africa. [ 1 ] The race was upgraded to Gold status in 2024, announced at a launch event with Eliud Kipchoge and 2023 winner Edinah Jebitok .
Cross country running at the Summer Olympics was held at the multi-sport event for men only from 1912 to 1924. During its brief tenure as an Olympic event, it featured on the Olympic athletics programme. Medals were awarded on an individual race basis as well as a national team points basis.
