Metrosideros kermadecensis, with common names Kermadec pōhutukawa and New Zealand Christmas bush [1] is an evergreen tree of the myrtle family which is endemic to the volcanic Kermadec Islands about 900 km (560 mi) north-east of New Zealand.

Metrosideros / ˌ m ɛ t r ə ˈ s ɪ d ər ə s,-t r oʊ-/ [3] is a genus of approximately 60 trees, shrubs, and vines in the family Myrtaceae, mostly found in the Pacific region.Most of the tree forms are small, but some are exceptionally large, the New Zealand species in particular.
Metrosideros polymorpha is commonly called a lehua tree, or an ʻōhiʻa lehua, or simply an ʻōhiʻa; all are correct, [6] although ʻōhiʻa is also used to refer to the tomato as well as certain varieties of sugarcane and taro. [7]
