The Shrine of Saint Anthony offers retreat spaces for outside guests and hosts an annual pilgrimage in mid-June in honor of the Feast Day of St. Anthony of Padua. On July 1, 2005, William Cardinal Keeler, the Archbishop of Baltimore declared the Shrine of St. Anthony the official Archdiocesan shrine to St. Anthony.

The parish was founded in 1856 as St. Margaret's and the name was changed to Sacred Heart when the present cathedral was built. Both the cathedral and the rectory are on the National Register. St. Anthony's Church: 1850-1853 built 1984 NRHP-listed 407 and 417 Main St.

The cornerstone of St. Anthony Church was blessed in 1903. [2] In 1907 Bishop Gallagher dedicated the new brick church. With the inception of the Diocese of Beaumont in 1966, St. Anthony Church was elevated to the rank of a cathedral by Pope Paul VI and Bishop Vincent Harris was installed as the first Bishop of Beaumont. It consists of a 11,500-square-foot (1,070 m 2), 73-foot (22 m) tall open-air temple and a 25,620-square-foot (2,380 m 2) surrounding deck.
