Skegness (/ ˌ s k ɛ ɡ ˈ n ɛ s / skeg-NESS) is a seaside town and civil parish in the East Lindsey District of Lincolnshire, England.On the Lincolnshire coast of the North Sea, the town is 43 miles (69 km) east of Lincoln and 22 miles (35 km) north-east of Boston.
Skegness Pier is located on the B1451 Grand Parade Road and is around 0.7 miles (1.1 km) from Skegness railway station. [3] The pier's main building also houses a bowling centre, laser quest and indoor children's play centre. [4]
Skegness became an urban district in 1894, [3] and meetings were held at 23 Algitha Road until 1920, when the authority purchased the Earl of Scarbrough's estate office at Roman Bank for £3,000 and used it as offices. This building burned down on 11 January 1928 and a new town hall, built on the site of the burnt-out offices, opened in 1931.

Skegness itself lies at the eastern end of the A158 to Lincoln. The coast is served by the Grimsby branch of the Sheffield to Lincoln line, the Cleethorpes-Barton line, and the Grantham to Skegness line. There are railway stations at Barrow, Barton, Boston, Cleethorpes, Grimsby (docks and town), New Holland and Skegness.
Skegness was dubbed "the Blackpool of the East Coast" or "Nottingham by the Sea". It has a mascot, the Jolly Fisherman, designed by John Hassall in 1908 for the Great Northern Railway; its slogan, "Skegness is so bracing", is a reference to the chilly prevailing north-easterly winds that can and frequently do blow off the North Sea.
