Benetton is known for its sports sponsorships, and for its "United Colors" advertising campaign. In 1982, Benetton hired Oliviero Toscani as creative director, which led to a change in advertising focus towards raising awareness for various issues worldwide. [14] In 1984, Toscani photographed the first multiracial ad for the brand. [3]
In the early 1990s, Toscani co-founded the magazine Colors (also owned by Benetton) with American graphic designer Tibor Kalman. With the tagline "a magazine about the rest of the world", Colors built on the multiculturalism prevalent at that time and in Benetton's ad campaigns, while remaining editorially independent from the group.

The Benetton B186 is a Formula One racing car, built and raced by the Benetton team for the 1986 Formula One World Championship. It was the first car to be constructed and raced by Benetton, which had bought the Toleman team at the end of 1985 after several years of sponsoring it and other teams, including Alfa Romeo and Tyrrell .
Benetton gained worldwide attention for its saucy advertising, inspired by its art director Oliviero Toscani. He started with multicultural themes, tied together under the campaign "United Colors of Benetton" then became increasingly provocative with interracial groupings, and unusual sexual images, such as a nun kissing a priest.
After Michelin pulled out of Formula One, the team smoothed relations with the Italian Pirelli by hiring a new team principal [25] and signing Italian fashion brand United Colors of Benetton as its lead sponsor. [26] From 1981 to 1985, Toleman entered seventy races and recorded three podiums, all of which were earned by Ayrton Senna.
Benetton Formula Limited., commonly referred to simply as Benetton, was a Formula One constructor that participated from 1986 to 2001. The team was owned by the Benetton family who run a worldwide chain of clothing stores. In 2000, the team was purchased by Renault, but competed as Benetton for the 2000 and 2001 seasons.
Carlo Benetton (26 December 1943 – 10 July 2018) was an Italian billionaire businessman. He was one of the co-founders of Benetton Group, the Italian fashion brand. In May 2015, Forbes estimated the net worth of Carlo Benetton and each of his three siblings at US$2.9 billion. [1] He had four children and was living in Treviso, Italy. [1]
