van Bruggen is best known in the English-speaking world for his 1976 book The Ancient Text of the New Testament (Dutch: De tekst van het Nieuwe Testament), in which he defended the Byzantine text-type [2]) and for his 1978 work, The Future of the Bible (originally published in Dutch in 1975 as De toekomst van de bijbelvertaling).
Wuest was born in 1893 on the north side of Chicago, where he lived for most of his life. [1] [2] He earned his A.B. in History and Greek from Northwestern University (1922), graduated from Moody Bible Institute (1924), and was awarded an honorary D.D. from Wheaton College (1955).
