Reading this article, I think the biggest weakness is the poor defintion of what a crossover is, especially in TV. Many of the examples provided are not crossovers at all, rather they are spin-off series. For example, NCIS:LA is a spin-off of NCIS, which in turn is a spin-off of JAG. The Finder is a spin-off of Bones.
