The Michigan Wolverines women's water polo team represents the University of Michigan in National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I competition. College water polo became a varsity sport at the University of Michigan in 2001. Marcelo Leonardi was the head coach since 2015.
The 2019 NCAA National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship was the 19th annual tournament to decide the championship of NCAA women's collegiate water polo. [1] Two play-in games were held on May 7, with the winners advancing to the main tournament, May 10–12 at the Avery Aquatic Center in Stanford, California, hosted by Stanford University.
The tournament was held at the University of Michigan's Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan with automatic bids for the MPSF (Stanford), CWPA (Indiana), Big West (UCI), MAAC (Iona), WWPA (UC San Diego) and SCIAC (Redlands). The three-day championships on May 13–15, 2011, also had two at-large teams.
The field of teams was revealed in a selection show on May 3, 2021. [2] Seven conferences were granted automatic qualification to the championship: the Big West Conference, Collegiate Water Polo Association, Golden Coast Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Western Water Polo Association.
