Furio Piccirilli (March 27, 1868 [1] – January 17, 1949) was an Italian-born American sculptor and one of the Piccirilli Brothers. [2]Piccirilli was born in Massa, Italy into a family with a long tradition of carving and sculpting.
In 1920, Daniel Chester French designed the large interior Statue of Abraham Lincoln, which was carved in marble by the Piccirilli brothers. [3] Jules Guerin painted the interior murals, and the epitaph above the statue was written by Royal Cortissoz. Dedicated on May 30, 1922, it is one of several memorials built to honor an American president.
