He was appointed to this post by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on 19 May 2014 following the resignation of the previous Coordinating Minister for Economics, Hatta Rajasa, who resigned to take part in Indonesia's 2014 presidential election. The district has an area of 131.75 square kilometres (50.87 sq mi) and had a population of 192,759 at the 2010 Census [2] and 223,450 at the 2020 Census; [3] the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 235,558.
