Keralapress (Kerala Press Service)(Kepra) commenced operation as a mail service giving news about Malayali activities in Madras to the Malayalam daily Malayala Rajyam published from Kollam. In 1942 the operation was shifted to Quilon where the founder was a practicing lawyer and the correspondent of The Hindu the English daily.
The first major Media coverage about the Malayalam Wikipedia was on 2 September 2007, when Malayalam daily newspaper Mathrubhumi covered Malayalam Wikipedia project extensively in its Sunday Supplement. According to the Indian census of 2011, there were 32,413,213 speakers of Malayalam in Kerala, making up 93.2% of the total number of Malayalam speakers in India, and 97.03% of the total population of the state.
