Fusion splicing is the act of joining two optical fibers end-to-end. The goal is to fuse the two fibers together in such a way that light passing through the fibers is not scattered or reflected back by the splice , and so that the splice and the region surrounding it are almost as strong as the intact fiber.
This is largely considered unpopular due to the increased amount of labor involved, as maintaining minimal splice loss requires frequent manual adjustment. Other than the method of alignment, all forms of optical fiber splicing, including non-mechanical fusion splicing, involve an essentially identical process of cleaving and testing. Good ...
Splicing of glass fibers by thermal fusion splice. Fiber optic cable sleeve Fiber optic cable splicer. Fiber-optic cables are spliced using a special arc-splicer, with installation cables connected at their ends to respective "pigtails" - short individual fibers with fiber-optic connectors at one end. The splicer precisely adjusts the light ...

Splicebox with different plugs Splicebox with interior splice cassette. A splice box (also known as splice distributor) is a housing in which fiber optic cables begin or end.
A fusion energy gain factor, usually expressed with the symbol Q, is the ratio of fusion power produced in a nuclear fusion reactor to the power required to maintain the plasma in steady state. The condition of Q = 1, when the power being released by the fusion reactions is equal to the required heating power, is referred to as breakeven , or ...
A film splicer (also called a film joiner, usually in Europe) is a device which can be used to physically join lengths of photographic film. It is mostly used in film motion pictures. The units are made in various types depending on the usage: Single-8 , Super 8 film , 16mm , 9,5 mm, 35mm and 70mm .
