West of downtown Nashville, the three-mile (4.8 km) section between SR 155 (Briley Parkway/White Bridge Road) and US 70 (Charlotte Pike) was expanded to six lanes from February 1988 to December 1989. From April 1991 to December 1992, the 5.9-mile (9.5 km) section in Bellevue linking US 70 and US 70S was widened to six lanes.
US 41W between Nashville and Clarksville followed the alignment of SR 12 until it was reallocated onto SR 112 some time between 1935 and 1938. [ 13 ] [ 14 ] In 1943, the western route became US 41 Alternate, while the main alignment of US 41 was reallocated to the east route.

SR 12 becomes signed as a primary highway and turns west, coming to an interchange with SR 155 (Briley Parkway). It continues east and then leaves Nashville.
