Ronda (Spanish pronunciation:) is a municipality of Spain belonging to the province of Málaga, within the autonomous community of Andalusia. Its population is about 35,000. Ronda is known for its cliffside location and a deep canyon that carries the Guadalevín River and divides the town.
The airport is located near to Chauchina and Santa Fe, about 9.4 miles (15 km) west of Granada and 62.5 miles (100 km) south of Jaén. Construction of the airport began in 1970 and it opened as Aeropuerto de Granada in 1972. On June 13, 2006, it was officially named after the poet Federico García Lorca, born near Granada. [1]
As of 2024, it is the 16th-busiest airport in Europe and the second busiest and second largest in the Balkans, after Istanbul Airport. The new Athens International Airport covers an expanse of 16,000 acres (25.0 sq mi; 64.7 km 2), making the facility among the largest in Europe and in the world in terms of land area. [4]
