The Prime Minister of Mongolia is the head of government of Mongolia. [1] The office was established in 1912, shortly after the Bogd Khanate of Mongolia declared its independence from the Qing dynasty during the Mongolian Revolution of 1911 .
The title of prime minister was only revived in 1990, when the People's Revolutionary Party gradually released its hold on power. Regardless of the changes of name, however, the modern Mongolian government recognizes the office as having existed continuously since 1912, and counts all holders of the office as prime ministers. The prime minister holds most of the executive powers in Mongolian politics. Unlike the president, the prime minister is chosen by the party (or coalition) with the majority of seats in the State Great Khural. Typically, the prime minister leads a major political party and generally commands the majority in the State Great Khural.
Peljidiin Genden (Mongolian: Пэлжидийн Гэндэн; 1892 or 1895 – November 26, 1937) was a Mongolian politician and statesman who served as the first president of Mongolia from 1924 to 1927, and the ninth prime minister of the country from 1932 to 1936.
