It's my understand that Johnson isn't as tapped in and connected (or respected) with the business and media side of American track & field as one might assume based on him being a former prominent American athlete and commentator on the BBC. But yea, the story here is not that a "new track league" is being started. That's old news.

Re: 1970's CBS Sport Spectacular-Track and Field I think this track program began in 1969. Personal highlights were Frank Shorter upsetting the Soviets in the 1970 U.S. v. Soviet Union dual meet in Leningrad. Shorter ran 28:24, which at the time was the second fastest American time. Also the epic Liquori-Ryun dual in 1971 was also broadcast on CBS.
