Pull the convection fan that distributes hot air off the stove and clean. Pull the paddle that pushes coal onto the grate and clean underneath then grease and reassemble. These stoves are simple and there is not a lot more other then a good cleaning of the stove body and making sure exhaust pipes and door gaskets are in good shape.
I don't have your kind of stove, but I have a hand-stoked Yukon-Eagle. I will usually burn coal for 24-36 hours, usually reloading every 12 hours or so. Then after a vigorous shakedown to get rid of the accumulated ash from a day or two of burning coal, I will burn wood for 4 hours or so.

To burn anthracite, the coal must completely cover the burn box, if there is any extra space, the air will go around the coal and it will not burn.

I assume it screws up from the bottom. I'll work the broken pieces out and see if I can get bolts instead of screws.
Vigilant Coal Stove Model 2310? thanks, pete. I just found a thread in a search that has the same info. edited to add that I just opened the ash door and looked up inside to see that the plate is still in place. looking forward to letting the wood fire die tonight so that I can clean the stove and remove the plate tomorrow night. a damned shame it is too high to reach with a screwdriver now ...
I've heard burning too hot will cause clinkers. stove coal lets more air through so I would think it would help, but I don't know that as fact. tcalo. Member. Posts: 2098. Joined: Tue.
