Monkey D. Luffy (/ ˈ l uː f i / LOO-fee) (Japanese: モンキー・D・ルフィ, Hepburn: Monkī Dī Rufi, [ɾɯꜜɸiː]), also known as "Straw Hat" Luffy, [n 2] is a fictional character and the protagonist in the Japanese manga series One Piece created by Eiichiro Oda.
Crocodile aims for Vivi, but Luffy stays behind and distracts him, while the other Straw Hats escape. In the ensuing fight, Crocodile defeats Luffy by impaling him through the chest with his hook and buried alive. The Galley La Company continues to fight Luffy with an enraged Franky attempting to take both sides out. An incredibly high tide called the "Aqua Laguna" is coming and Chopper and Sanji rush to warn Usopp. Luffy raises some chaos in order to meet with Iceberg and he demands to know what's happening. Iceberg says he wants to see Robin one more time.
Luffy and Lucci take their fight to the next floor above the sea level to resume their fight with the latter having the greater advantage after Luffy's Second Gear ended. Though Lucci offers Luffy a chance to run away and save his friends, the pirate knows not to trust the CP9 agent as he reveals his other trump card: Third Gear.
In "Water 7," Zoro upholds the authority of Luffy as captain during Luffy's fight with Usopp and Usopp's leaving of the crew. Zoro pointedly refuses to allow Usopp to rejoin the crew without an apology and threatens to be the next to leave because to let Usopp "back as if nothing happened was an insult to Luffy's authority as captain.
Much like the manga and anime it is based on, Monkey D. Luffy wants to take Gol D. Roger's place to become King of the Pirates. Together with his crew namely, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, and Nico Robin are on a quest to search for the great treasure One Piece [b] and also to fulfill their own dreams.
The crew is hesitant, but Luffy accepts the challenge. The Straw Hats (represented by Usopp) win the first trial, but the outraged Baron demands they compete in another challenge. Luffy, Chopper, and Robin wait at the resort while the rest of the crew participates in the second trial.
