Pakistani pilot Ayesha Farooq was the first female fighter pilot for the Pakistan Air Force. At least 19 women became pilots in the air force in the decade from 2003. [258] India has been very successful at recruiting women to pilot commercial airliners. In 2014, women made up 11.6% of pilots.
The scholarship program was started in 1968 in memory of Doris Mullen, a former member. It was incorporated in 1974, and became an international program in 1978.
