The district is 2 miles east of downtown Nashville. The area was developed between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Historically, it has been a middle class area. There are 352 buildings in the district and the majority of the buildings are single family homes. The district also has several churches a corner store and a school.
Old Hickory Boulevard is a historic road that encircles Nashville, Tennessee, lying entirely within Davidson County. Originally the road, aided by ferries, formed a nearly unbroken loop around the city.
In 2003, the Loveless Cafe was sold to a few committed Nashville natives. They closed the cafe in February 2004 for restorations. [4] The two buildings containing the old motel rooms were converted to Hams & Jams Country Market and the Loveless Motel Shops. [4]

Old Hickory is the site of a country club, large golf course, city park, a Chamber of Commerce, and the DuPont plant, which has been mostly shut down but continues to employ a few hundred workers. The Nashville National Weather Service Forecast Office is located just to the southeast in nearby Wilson County.
