    True. In the 1970s, Porsche did not have the plant capacity to produce the 924, and VW/Audi had an unused ex-NSU plant nearby. So a deal was struck and production commenced. The 944 continued this relationship. BTW, unlike the Audi-based engines in the 924, the 944 engines were assembled at the Porsche plant, then trucked over to Neckarsulm.
