St. John's Hospital (Irish: Ospidéal Naomh Eoin) is an acute general voluntary hospital located in the city of Limerick, County Limerick, Ireland. St. St. John's Hospital is governed and managed independently by its own hospital board in accordance with its constitution.
The hospital, which replaced Laois County Infirmary, was designed by Drogheda born Irish architect Michael Scott, and was built between 1933 and 1936. [ 2 ] On 5 March 2008, reports were published regarding the breast cancer misdiagnosis scandal at the hospital.
The hospital provides 522 beds, of which 375 are in-patient acute beds, while 97 are reserved for acute day cases. [12] A further 50 beds are for psychiatric services. [12] The hospital provides acute-care hospital services, including a 24-hour emergency department [12] and is the location of the Mid-Western Cancer Centre. [13]
The hospital was renamed University Hospital Waterford at that time. [3] In April 2019, it was claimed that bodies had been 'left to decompose' on trolleys at the hospital.
