During the Revolution of 2011 , the Egyptian Army cordoned the neighborhood off, only allowing residents of the area to enter, to prevent looting , particularly of the vacated apartments of foreigners forced to flee.

Stanley [1] (Egyptian Arabic: ستانلى) is a neighborhood near the city centre of Alexandria. The area is most famous for the iconic Stanley Bridge on the Corniche, as well as its private-access beach. The bridge has a total length of 400 meters with 6 spans.
The area was known for a landmark hotel-casino that was demolished in the late 1990s. That hotel was replaced by the San Stefano Grand Plaza, a hotel-apartment-shopping mall complex that includes a Four Seasons luxury hotel, opened in 2007 [1] and apartments, housed in the tallest building in Alexandria (135 m (443 ft)).
