Tianjin Binhai New Area Library [2] (Chinese: 天津滨海新区图书馆), nicknamed "The Eye", is a library in Tianjin, China. It is part of the Binhai Cultural Center, being one of its five central attractions.
The predecessors of Tianjin Library were Zhili Library (founded in the 34th year of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty [6]), Tianjin Municipal Library and the Former Tianjin Library, among which Zhili Library was the main one. It is a national comprehensive maritime museum jointly established and managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China and the Tianjin Municipal People's Government. It is a public cultural institution under the Binhai New Area People's Government, integrating collection, display, research, and education.
Adjoining the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee and the people's government of Tianjin Municipality, the Tianjin Grand Theatre is the main building in the cultural center. There are Tianjin Library, Tianjin Art Gallery, Tianjin Museum, Tianjin Natural and History Museum, Tianjin Science and Technology Museum and other venues in its vicinity.
The Shanghai Library is China's largest provincial-level library. Of its collection, the over 1.7 million volumes of ancient documents are the most valuable and representative, including 25,000 titles of rare ancient books in 178,000 volumes, many being the only copies extant in the world. The oldest document dates back nearly 1,500 years. [10]
