You should better understand how to read a weather station model now. We’ve covered measurements and common weather station symbols and explained what they all mean and how they look. Here’s a page full of active station plots.
A weather symbol is plotted if at the time of observation, there is either precipitation occurring or a condition causing reduced visibility. Wind is plotted in increments of 5 knots (kts), with the outer end of the symbol pointing toward the direction from which the wind is blowing.
In this episode of WxDTV, you'll learn how to decoded weather station models. New time you see a surface map, or see one in my forecast videos, you'll know what they mean. This will give you...
On a station model, reading the temperature is pretty easy. The number located in the upper-left corner of the model is the station temperature expressed in degrees Fahrenheit (or Celsius, depending on the country of origin).
This video goes through a step-by-step process in order to decode, read and understand a weather station model.

Sample Station Plot Detailed information about items marked with a (*) is provided below. WEATHER. A weather symbol is plotted if at the time of observation, there is either precipitation occurring or a condition causing reduced visibility. Below is a list of the most common weather symbols: WIND.
As I did with temperature, dew point, visibility, and present weather, I'll briefly describe each variable and its common units of measurement (if applicable), and then describe how to interpret it on a station model.
You can find your local weather station model by searching for “weather station models” on the National Weather Service website. After you select a model, you will be able to see all of the different types of data that are available for that particular model.
Based on a specific report, a weather station model rightly depicts the required information about the weather. Every minute detail regarding the weather is present in a weather report, like temperature, wind speed, atmospheric pressure, wind direction, cloud precipitation, etc.
