Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. When you created an account if you picked a name for yourself instead of sticking with the random generated one. That will count as your free gamer tag change. Unfortunately, if you used the name change there is no other way to get a free one. Thanks, Brad
The free name changes only apply if you originally accepted the gamertags they recommended to you. If you customised the gamertag in any way like adding numbers to the end or just choosing your own you do not get the free gamertag change. Also I think the free change has to be taken within the first 30 days of opening your account
And the free change is only available for the first 30 days of the life of your gamertag. So since you created the gamertag, you would not be eligible for the free change. You'll have to pay to change the name. At least you get to change your gamertag. On PSN there's no way to change your tag.
If you create a new account and remain with the system generated gamer tag, you can change it for free within the first 30 days of the account creation. If you wait until after 30 days you have to pay to change. If you did stick with the system generated gamer tag and you changed it the day you created, that was your free change.
On the site, it says I am allowed to change my username once. However, when I go to claim a free username change, I get charged for it. I assume this is because I picked my name. Still, I believe this offer should be available to all users, not just those who didn’t pick their name.
The free change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created your account and are changing that tag for the first time. So if you've ever changed your tag before or created it before the free change became available, you would have to pay.
