University Hall was the first building on campus, built in 1873 and reconstructed in 1976. The proposal of a manufacturing and agriculture university in central Ohio was initially met in the 1870s with hostility from the state's agricultural interests and competition for resources from Ohio University, which was chartered by the Northwest Ordinance and Miami University. Adventures in Pharmacy was created as a community service by the Ohio State College of Pharmacy, the Department of Athletics, and Columbus Public Schools. One of the goals of this program was to educate students about the role pharmacists play in health care and the treatment of common illnesses.
