The 1997 SAGA World World Indoor Bowls Championship [1] was held at Preston Guild Hall, Preston, England, from 23 January – 2 February 1997.In the singles Hugh Duff won his second title beating Andy Thomson in the final.
The following year the event moved to the Guild Hall, Preston, where it remained until 1997. [2] The rules were changed in 1984, when the tournament was granted ranking status and all professionals were allowed to enter.
The Public Hall closed in March 1973, replaced by a new Guild Hall on a different site. The local council intended to demolish it to make way for a proposed extension of the Ringway town centre bypass, whose construction a few years earlier had resulted in the creation of a gyratory system around the hall.
The 1992 UK Championship was a professional ranking snooker tournament that took place at the Guild Hall in Preston, England. The event started on 13 November 1992 and the televised stages were shown on BBC between 21 and 29 November 1992. It was the last UK Final to be staged over two days and to use the best of 31 frames format. [1]
