The University of Balochistan (UoB) was established in October 1970 through an Ordinance issued by the Governor of Balochistan. In 1996, the Balochistan Assembly passed the University of Balochistan ACT . In 2022, a unified ACT for all public sector universities in the province was passed, under which UoB currently operates.

Provincial medical entrance exams included the MDCAT conducted by the University of Health Sciences, Lahore in Punjab and Balochistan before the NMDCAT. The university was established in 2009 as a sub-campus of the University of Balochistan (UOB) Quetta.For this purpose, 500 acres of land at Zarr Karerz was provided by the Provincial Government which allocated 12 km from Loralai City at Quetta Road.
