The Yamaha YZF-R1, or simply R1, is a 998 cc (60.9 cu in) sports motorcycle made by Yamaha. It was first released in 1998, undergoing significant updates in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2015, [ 2 ] 2018 [ 3 ] and 2020.
With strong competition from Honda's CBR600F4i, Suzuki's GSX-R600, and Yamaha's YZF-R6, Kawasaki decided on an unusual move for the late 2002 models. They increased the capacity of the traditional 600 cc (37 cu in) motor to 636 cubic centimetres (38.8 cu in) with the ZX-6R A1P.

Yamaha sold the YZF600R "Thundercat" in Europe from 1996 to 2003, and from 1994 to 2008 in the United States and Canada. From 1994 to 1996 the YZF600R had distinctive twin "Cats eye" headlights. In 1997 it was updated to have a single rounded triangular headlight as well as some other minor bodywork changes.
Other applications ranged from the Supersport YZF-R6 and YZF-R1 models, using electronic fuel injection with YCCT and YCCI, to the less extreme but still powerful Yamaha FZ6 (4 valve per cylinder) and FZ1 Fazer line, which had a simpler fuel injection design but was the same basic engine design.
The Yamaha YZF-R3, commonly R3, is a 321 cc (19.6 cu in) parallel-twin sport bike made by Yamaha since 2015. The R3 and the R25 are the first Yamaha twins with an offset cylinder design. [7] The YZF-R3 was updated for 2019. The update brought a new fairing design, KYB upside down forks and the clip-on handlebars lowered by 22mm.
