The Beckwith Ranch is a historic cattle ranch in the Wet Mountain Valley of Custer County, Colorado, USA. The headquarters spread over eleven buildings, ten of which have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 20, 1998. [2] [3] It was established by Elton and Edwin Beckwith, two brothers from Mount Desert Island, Maine.

Custer County was created by the Colorado legislature on March 9, 1877, out of the southern half of Fremont County. It was named in honor of Lt. Colonel George Armstrong Custer, who had died the previous year. Originally set in Ula, the county seat moved to Rosita in 1878, and to Silver Cliff in 1886 before settling in Westcliffe in 1928.

Silver Cliff is located near the geographic center of Custer County. The town of Westcliffe is immediately adjacent to its west. The town is 54 miles (87 km) west of Pueblo, via Colorado State Highway 96. According to the United States Census Bureau, Silver Cliff has a total area of 15.5 square miles (40.1 km 2), all of it land. [5]
