They changed its name to St. Brendan High School and it opened at the start of the 1975 school year. It is part of the Archdiocese of Miami. The school is primarily committed to serving the educational needs of the Catholic population of the southwest section of Miami. In 1975, 346 students were enrolled in the ninth and tenth grades.
The barque of St Brendan symbolises missionary endeavour, while the 12-pointed star on the sail is taken from the Shaw badge, where it represented 'Light from Knowledge'. Senior secondary (Year 11 and 12) classes were introduced in 1990 and the school became the regional Catholic secondary co-educational college.
St. Brendan Parish in Riverside, Rhode Island was established [1] in 1889. In 1909, it became a priority to build a school that would reinforce the Catholic faith in the lives of the children of the parish as well as give them a well-rounded education in all secular subjects.

St Brendan's was founded by the Irish Christian Brothers as a Catholic school for boys in 1896 in Berkeley Square in Bristol. [1] During the first fifty years of its existence it played a part in developing an educated Catholic laity in and around Bristol. Many of its pupils entered the priesthood as well as other professions.
