He was introduced to Tchelistcheff at the French National Agronomy Institute where Andre was working, along with research he was doing at the Pasteur Institute. [1]
In 1974, Jess Jackson purchased an 80-acre (32 ha) orchard in Northern California. He planted grapes on the land to attempt winemaking. [5] Jackson Family Wines was founded in 1982, [6] [7] and its first vintage of Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay (1982) was released in 1983.
The Shenandoah Valley AVA's climate allows grapes to attain higher acidity, generally regarded as good in wine. [6] The cooler, relatively dry climate, soil composition and position between two mountain chains makes the Shenandoah Valley more ideal for viticulture than any of the state's other regions.
