Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet is a solo instrumental work by Igor Stravinsky. The work was composed in 1918. [ 1 ] It was published in 1919, shortly after the completion of his Suite from L'Histoire du Soldat , as a thank-you gift to the philanthropist and arts patron Werner Reinhart , who was also an amateur clarinetist. Carl Nielsen's Concerto for Clarinet and orchestra, op. 57 [D.F.129] was written for Danish clarinetist Aage Oxenvad in 1928. The concerto is presented in one long movement, with four distinct theme groups.
Nilo Wellington Hovey was born in Iowa on September 22, 1906, to Leroy Dana and Lois Graham Hovey. Raised in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Hovey participated in the Cedar Falls Municipal Band, initially on saxophone, but eventually on most of the reed instruments, and attended Iowa State Teacher's College (now the University of Northern Iowa).
Syrinx, L. 129, is a piece of music for solo flute which Claude Debussy wrote in 1913. It generally takes three minutes or less to perform. It was the first significant piece for solo flute after the Sonata in A minor composed by C. P. E. Bach over 150 years before (1747 [1]), and it is the first such solo composition for the modern Böhm flute, developed in 1847.
