[3] It was established on March 1, 1818, from parts of Fairfield, Washington and Muskingum counties. The county is named for Oliver Hazard Perry, a hero of the War of 1812. [4]

The Perry County Courthouse is a historic government building in the city of New Lexington, Ohio, United States.Built near the end of the nineteenth century after the end of a county seat war, it is the fifth courthouse to serve Perry County, and it has been named a historic site because of its imposing architecture.
In 1990, the Perry Campus in New Lexington opened to serve the needs of Perry County residents. [13] In 1991, the college's name officially changed for a second time to Hocking College. [ 14 ] In 1997, the college purchased Lake Snowden in Albany, Ohio and in 1998 renamed it as the Lake Snowden Education and Recreation Park.
