  2. .45 ACP ballistics chart (out to 100 yards!) - 1911Forum

The 45 ACP is still lethal out at that range, as the FMJ bullets still had a lot of momentum to them with plenty of penetration power. But it is a exercise mostly as unless you are in a war maybe, there isn't much reason to shoot that far for self defense.

I have a .45 ACP 16" MechTech conversion unit on a stock Rock Island 1911 frame. I also have a 16" Olympic Arms .45 ACP AR15. I tried to find internet and reference book bullet drop information for shooting a 230 grain .45 ACP round to Point of Aim (POA) at a distance of 100 yards (through a 16" barrel).

The Quick n’ Dirty on .45 ACP The .45 Auto, or .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol), cartridge is, like the 9mm, a century-old military cartridge designed by the legendary John Browning in 1904. It first saw service in the U.S. Army’s M1911 handgun, and it remains in service with certain Army and Marine units today. 9mm vs 45 ACP: Specs Compared

Primer pocket depth is usually 0.120", so the diagram measurements could be a hair off, as Starline minimum measurement for those diagrams (measured from the bottom of the interior cavity to the cartridge base) would be 0.161" for the 45 ACP, 0.165 for the +P and 0.170 for the 45 Super.

.460 Rowland, .45 super or 10mm with Underwood ammo out of a fully supported barrel. Those 3 and call it a day. .45 ACP is a low pressure round. Trying to make it into high pressure round doesn’t make sense when the above 3 are somewhat available. Good luck.

  8. Can I use Large Pistol Magnum primers in 45 acp? - 1911Forum

    www.1911forum.com/threads/can-i-use-large-pistol-magnum-primers-in-45-acp.260460

Hey guys, I am kinda in the same situation. I was considering using some of my Federal 155 Large Mag Pistol Primers to load .45 ACP for my S&W SR 1911. Any additional guidance? I also don't have any equipment to capture velocity, so was wondering where I should "stop" as far as a safe load.

  9. 10mm is it better than the 45, in the 1911 - 1911Forum

    www.1911forum.com/threads/10mm-is-it-better-than-the-45-in-the-1911.1050632

10 mm puts unnecessary battering and stress on a regular (5 inch) 1911. For me, the .45 acp in a fullsize 1911 is versatile and effective enough as a self defense and fun in the range combination. The .45 acp is widely available too, and that contributes to its desirability factor - for me.

  11. .44 Special vs. .45 ACP - 1911Forum

    www.1911forum.com/threads/44-special-vs-45-acp.220297

For a Revolver, .45 ACP or .44 Special...kinda like, a gorgous Blonde and a gorgeous Brunette... Different, yes...but, either way....45 ACP for a Revolver, use full Moon Clips, very elegant....44 Special, heir to the repute of .44 Russian, were the premier Target Cartridges of the day...though this is merely ancillary if a short Barrel.
