The honours system in the Republic of Austria is a means of rewarding individuals' personal achievement, or service to Austria by state decorations and medals. The Austrian Armed Forces Operations Medal (German: Einsatzmedaille des Österreichischen Bundesheeres) was established in 2001 to recognize operational service by the Military of Austria. The medal is 40 mm wide and round, suspended from a ribbon that varies depending on the type of operation.
The obverse of the medal depicts a right facing eagle surmounting the escutcheon with fess depicting the simplified arms of Austria. Below the eagle is the inscription FÜR ÖSTERREICH. The reverse of the medal bears the inscription 1914-1918 surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves around the edge. [1] [2]
