Palmeiras, took part in the first international competition, the 1951 Copa Rio after winning the 1950 Campeonato Paulista which at the time was one of the biggest football competitions in the world, the idea of the competition was to gather together the reigning champions of the world's top football national leagues, to determine the world club champion.
