Delaware is a city in and the county seat of Delaware County, Ohio, United States. [4] It is located near the center of Ohio, about 30 miles (48 km) north of Columbus as part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The population was 41,302 at the 2020 census. [5] Delaware was founded in 1808 and was incorporated in 1816.
Significant highways in Delaware Township include: [5] County Road 424, which travels east–west through the southern half of the township; U.S. Route 127, which travels north–south through Sherwood in the western half of the township; State Route 18, which travels east–west through the center of the township

Delaware County was established in 1807 by an act of the Ohio General Assembly. The county seat was placed at Berkshire until 1808 when Delaware was founded and successfully petitioned to be the county seat. The courts met in various locations until a courthouse was built in 1815.
