Well, the problem is I have a lot of applications that are installed that I couldn't reinstall (don't have the installers) and that can't run from the files themselves, throwing errors probably because they have missing AppData and registry settings and other application-specific stuff they need.
As far as i know, win 10 silently kept being free for genuine versions of win 7 and 8/8.1. I have not done any major changes to the hardware (switched from hdd to ssd). Can i still use my win 7 key, or do i need to buy a new one?

I finally decided to try the Windows 10 reinstall keeping apps and files (option by default when reinstalling from a USB key within Windows 10). I was a bit worried at first but it worked very well, except for a few older programs that didn't get reinstalled. The WinSxS folder is brand new. SFC and DISM /RestoreHealth complete successfully.

That's why I did a fresh windows install yesterday. Just to run into corrupted system files again. I woke up to Windows sitting at the recovery screen today. I just pulled 3 of the 4 DIMMs out. Running on 8GB right now. Did a windows 'upgrade' and that seems to have fixed the windows update problem (posted in another thread on here.)
