I'm curious at white height do most of you sight in the 6.5 Creedmoor. I normally set my rifles to be 3 inches high at 100 yards, for a test, I sighted in my 6.5 CR to be 5 inches high. Not a good idea, since it's shooting over seven inches high at 200 yards no. What works for you?
If you are zeroed @ 100 yrds your drop at 400 yrds would be around 8.5 MOA based on <2,500 fps MV The 6.5 is a very popular and inherently accurate caliber. The Creedmore is somewhat slow in my opinion but performs well and remains super sonic beyond 1000 yds with most 140 gr bullets.
Sight in at 100, if you want to hunt with maximum point blank range just dial up to that # when hunting. Sighting in at 100 helps you not have to re-zero when traveling, it minimizes atmospheric impacts. Allows me to have a drop chart for here in AL at 500' and in CO at 10,000' without having to re-zero.
Sooo, that IHMSA barrel is being rechambered for 6.5 Creedmoor with only a 1/4" setback, as we speak. I am noting velocities for 140 grain bullets are substantially (2-300 fps) higher than I got with the IHMSA cartridge, which is the .308 cut off 1/8" with a 40 degree shoulder.
I shoot 6.5 Creedmoor I looked at my ballistic program at 2622fps 100yard zero I'm 2.4" low at 200 yards with the 140 ELD match bullets your load is very slow. Powders to try H4350 Superformance RL17 I like them all with 140gr bullets
I'll be taking my Ruger Model 18054 6.5 Creedmoor to the range later this week. This is my first experience with a rifle with a 20 MOA Picatinny rail. I using a vortex viper pst 6-24x50 ffp riflescope ebr-2c (mrad) mounted with Vortex 30mm Precision Matched Rings - 1.45". I'll be using Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor 140gr ELD Match ammo for my first outing.
A lot of people consider 1000 ft/lbs of kinetic energy to be the minimum amount of power to humanely kill a deer. If you believe this, then the yardage to make this shot is dependent on your load and velocity. The chart I attached figures a 142 grain bullet with a MV at 2700 (which is a pretty conservative speed).
My son killed a Caribou with American Gunner from his 6.5 Creedmoor. Supposedly the same stuff as Black. Didn't cause as much internal damage as the 140gr Elite Hunter did on mine, but did not appear to just pencil through though. John
I have had really good luck with H100V and the 142 ABLR in my tikka t3x 6.5 creedmoor. Load tests from 37 - 41 gr. and all groups under .7" with multiple loads at 0.3" @ 100. H4350 has worked well also but not quite as good as h100v.
Turrets (by yardage) will be specific to all environmental conditions. Turrets based on Ballistic app would be my suggestion as you could modify the app and dial as needed. This however takes time. A Roy will make it easier at 600 yards and under due to velocity but a drop chart that is accurate is time consuming and is still based on the day.
