You'll likey spend more money on a premium barrel than you paid for the whole gun. .308 has better barrel life out of the 6.5CM, 7mm-08. 6.5CM offers the flatest shooting round and a great selection of bullets to choose from. 7mm-08 does not have the options that the other two have and barrel life is slightly better than 6.5CM. A 6.5CM barrel ...
7mm Remington Magnum vs 6.5 Creedmore. I am looking for a new rifle and I am in a crossroads in between two cartridges. 7 mm Remington Magnum and the smaller round 6.5 Creedmoor. First off, I will be shooting at maximum ranges of 1000 m to 1500 m and will be hunting at ranges of 500 m to 1000 m. The cost of the two rounds is very similar in my ...
If you are talking about hunting, the 7.62 bullet is better in that within 500 yards, it. does not require as accurate shot placement to be effective in bringing something down. as a 6.5mm bullet. But, plenty of deer have fallen quickly to. the .243 Win. And that is only a 6.0mm bullet usually around 80 - 100 grains.
The 6.5 Creedmoor is getting a lot of great press as "the" cartridge of the moment for long range target shooting. From a ballistics perspective the 243 and 6.5 are almost identical out 1100 meters with the 243 having an edge as far as bullet drop is concerned. At 1100yd both have been in the air for 1.8 sec and drift in 10mph cross wind is ...
After several months of considering 260 Rem vs 6.5 Creedmoor for my 6.5 build, I've decided to go with the Creed. On reviewing past threads regarding twist rate for 6.5, I've found most of the comments are from 260 Rem shooters, probably due to its longer availability and popularity.
The .260 and 6.5 Creedmoor are .308 length cases and beat the .308 in everything but barrel life out to 1000. As an example, the 6.5 140grn AMAX out of either round at 2820fps at 70 degrees at sea level has 633 ft/lbs of energy at 1000 and only takes 8.6 mils to get there.
The only Reasons to me that would keep me in a 308 would be component and available loaded ammunition, longer barrel life, and competitive shooting where rules mandate a service rifle caliber. F/TR is such a competition class, 223 or 308 there. Creedmoor wins the ballistics contest and loaded ammunition availability is more widespread with each ...
That of course is my opinion. As for energy, the 300wsm does have more energy downrange and if I was wanting to take down game at long range the 300wsm would be my choice. I've been thinking back in forth over which caliber for my new 1,000yd gun. It would be for paper punching, only thing I really hunt are coyote.
The 7mm-08 is a bit closer to the 308 and doesn't really come close to the ballistics of the 7mm mag. If you are determined to use the 7mm bullets look at the 280 rem, 280 improved, and 284 win. These will give substantially better performance than the 308 and won't burn barrels nearly as fast as the 7mm mag. JMHO
The ballistics of the 6.5 is better than a .308 but I still take my .308 out to 1200 yards. This is odd because the whole idea behind the 6.5 Creed is that you don't have to reload to get handload match ammo quality. The Creedmoor is an awesome caliber, every way better than a 308. Only weakness is ammo selection.
