Moriarty first came to Gaelic football prominence as a student with Tralee CBS, winning consecutive Corn Uí Mhuirí titles in 1944 and 1945. By this stage he had already began his adult club career with the Austin Stacks club.
In 2007 the school won the Munster Colleges Senior Gaelic football "A" (Corn Uí Mhuirí) title [citation needed] and went on only to lose to Omagh CBS in the All-Ireland Hogan Cup final. The Hogan Cup (Irish: Corn Uí Ógáin), also known as the All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Senior A Football Championship, is the top level Gaelic football championship for secondary schools (sometimes referred to as colleges) in Ireland. The competition itself is regularly referred to by the trophy's name.
Before 1927 only one team represented Tralee in the Kerry Senior Football County Championship and they were Tralee John Mitchels.As this team was so successful the Kerry County Board requested that it should be divided into three individual teams representing, Boherbee, Rock St. and Strand St, this is where the John Mitchels, Austin Stacks and Kerins O'Rahilly's clubs came from.
