The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents authorized establishment of a College of Dentistry in 1954 to respond to the needs of underserved areas of rural Oklahoma. The founding dean, William E. Brown, was recruited in 1969 to initiate planning of the curriculum and facility.

The Society originated with the 1914 graduating class of the dental school at Northwestern University in Chicago. The idea for the fraternity came from the Dean of the Northwestern University Dental School, Dr. Green Vardiman Black who soon invited the deans of 51 other dental school extant at the time to organize chapters of their own, forming a network of locals.
Before applying to dental school, you must have completed an undergraduate degree in science disciplines such as biology, chemistry, and physics. [4] [5] This knowledge is necessary to understand the complex nature of dental procedures and treatments. In addition, some dental schools may have prerequisite courses required.

Oklahoma's admission into the union in 1907 led to the renaming of the Norman Territorial University as the University of Oklahoma. Norman residents donated 407 acres (1.6 km 2 ) of land for the university 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south of the Norman railroad depot.
