Originally the station operated as WJHR ("Jersey Hometown Radio") with an adult contemporary format. It briefly broadcast a talk format called "Chat Radio" and had short stints as a business talk station and an ESPN Radio affiliate before adopting the call letters and religious format of WCHR, which had been operating on 920 AM in Trenton, in 2002.
Nassau gave Millennium Radio the option to buy the station in the deal that transferred the ownership of WJLK-FM, WOBM-FM, WBBO, WADB and WOBM in June 2002. Nassau operated WCHR until its sale was completed a year later in July 2003. In 2010, 105.7 the Hawk agreed to broadcast all regular season New York Jets football games.

On Monday October 7, 2019 Gelb announced he would leave CBS for Sirius XM Mad Dog Radio Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday and Sirius XM NFL Radio Monday and Thursday. He returned to CBS in 2020 with a 6-10 PM EST show.
