The C3 fifteen-year run shows an extreme contrast. The list price for the Corvette in 1968 was $4,663 (~$42,163 in 2024). By 1982 the base price had increased to $18,290 (~$48,871 in 2023). In 1968 there were six engines, two small-block V8s and four big-block V8s. By 1982 there was only one small block V8 engine available.
1988 saw the 35th Anniversary Edition of the Corvette. [23] In 1990, the ZR1 option Corvette was introduced with the LT5 engine designed by Lotus and built in the Mercury Marine plant in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The LT5 engine was a four-cam (DOHC) design producing 375 hp (280 kW). The C4 ZR1 ran from 1990 thru 1995 model years.
The special edition Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette was available from 1987 to 1991 as Regular Production Option (RPO) B2K and could be ordered from select dealers in the US. Corvette orders with the B2K option selected were shipped to Callaway Cars in Old Lyme, Connecticut, for the Twin Turbo conversion directly from the Bowling Green assembly plant.

ZR1, (or ZR-1), is a designation that has been used on several different generational models of the Chevrolet Corvette. For the 3rd generation (C3), the ZR1 & ZR2 were special engine packages. Only 53 of these packages were optioned during the 1970 to 1972 model years.
This axle is referred to as a Dana 44 ICA or Dana 44 IRS. All 1980–1982 Chevrolet Corvette C3 and manual transmission equipped 1985–1996 Chevrolet Corvette C4 had this axle. The 2005–06 Pontiac GTO, The Dodge Viper has always used a Dana 44 IRS setup. The majority of Corvette and Viper Dana 44 IRS set ups use a limited slip differential.
